Most educators in order to encourage ongoing education tell students that math is hard. U was told that. I had to change grade school teachers to study under a more difficult mTh teacher, who better explained math. Math does require repetition and discipline. These are not qualities many Americans cultivate! Education is where non math proficient people flock as a doable profession. Educators frequently came into their profession because they “ hated math” Consequently, when someone says you can make money playing games, many now say “hell yes”.
What they don’t realize is to make money, which is the goal of a commercial ly successful enterprises, the house must win! This means most players must lose. (to pay the winner and provide the business with a profit to continue and pay investors! Yes, even investments even if we don’t want, if popular, should be paid. ( Rhis is a zero sum situation! Even with growth, more must lose to get a profit for investors. )
Already the cry is heard from the liberal s and many conservatives either restrict their speech or mandate disclaimers. Require publication of odds. This has not worked. It will not work. Some will refrain from conduct out of fear of punishment! Seldom are individuals discouraged by mandated disclaimers. We must initiate education. Teach that odds of success are minimal. Some will still choose wrong, “free will” must prevail. Humans have a right to choose! This includes the right to choose poorly. So the next time you see a gambling add, use it as a teaching moment, not merely an opportunity to condemn bad conduct! Don’t prohibit, just educate on probability!
